Then I exhale through my nose for 7 counts, imagining I’m releasing the day’s tension like autumn leaves falling gracefully to the ground.

This 5-2-7 pattern activates the vagus nerve—our body’s natural relaxation pathway—while the longer exhale triggers the parasympathetic nervous system, our rest-and-restore mode. I continue this rhythm for at least 10 breaths, often losing count as I sink deeper into the meditation of my own breathing.

I’ve found that using a guided breathwork journal helps me track which breathing patterns work best for different moods and situations—it’s become an invaluable tool for building nervous system awareness.

The Magnesium Ceremony
